Most IT Assessments in Calgary Are Sales Calls. Ours Is Different.
When Calgary businesses ask about an IT assessment, they usually get a 45-minute walkthrough followed by a proposal. At Pure IT, Fixed Fee (Managed IT Services) plan clients receive something fundamentally different: a formal annual IT assessment completed by a dedicated vCIO and Technical Alignment Manager, measured against approximately 200 industry standards, and delivered with a written report and a face-to-face review meeting.
It takes 20 to 30 hours. It covers your entire IT environment. And it happens every year, not just when you sign.
No other IT company in Calgary includes this as a standard part of their managed services agreement.

What the IT Assessment Covers
The assessment is built around the MyITProcess platform, which organizes IT and cybersecurity best practices into a comprehensive library of standards used across the managed services industry. Your environment is evaluated against all applicable standards, including:
- Endpoint security configuration and patch status
- Backup integrity, immutability, and documented recovery testing
- Multi-factor authentication coverage across email, VPN, cloud, and admin accounts
- Cybersecurity posture relative to what cyber insurers now require
- Network security — firewall configuration, DNS filtering, segmentation
- User access controls and privileged account management
- Microsoft 365 and cloud environment configuration
- Documentation quality and IT asset inventory accuracy
- Incident response plan – existence, currency, and whether it has been tested
- AI governance policies for employee use of generative AI tools
Our new Not-for-Profit company of 30 staff started working with PureIT in July of this year and have been very impressed with how easy they have been to work with. From the initial setup of our network through to software deployment the team assigned to us has been phenomenal. They are always happy to help, and response time has been very fast. We look forward to continuing to build our relationship into the future.
Who Does the Work?
The assessment is completed by two people assigned specifically to your account: a Virtual CIO (vCIO) and a Technical Alignment Manager (TAM). They work independently of your day-to-day help desk. This is dedicated strategic time, not squeezed in between support tickets.
The vCIO brings the business and strategic perspective. The TAM brings the technical depth. Together they spend 20 to 30 hours reviewing your environment before presenting findings to your leadership team.
How the Process Works
Step 1: Environment Review
Your vCIO and TAM conduct a thorough technical review of your IT environment using the MyITProcess standards library. Every applicable standard is assessed and scored. This is not a checklist that gets signed off in an afternoon — it is a genuine audit of how your environment performs against what good looks like.
Step 2: Written Report
When the review is complete, a formal written report is produced. It identifies what is working, what has gaps, and how significant those gaps are. Deficiencies are documented clearly, without jargon, so your leadership team can understand what they mean for your business.
Step 3: Client Review Meeting
Your vCIO and TAM sit down with your team to walk through the findings. You ask questions. They answer them directly. There are no surprises — and no pressure. The goal is to make sure you have a complete picture of where your IT environment stands.
Step 4: Remediation Planning and Quoting
For any deficiencies identified, Pure IT prepares a remediation quote. You decide what to prioritize and when. Some items get addressed immediately; others become part of a longer-term IT roadmap. Either way, you have a documented plan — not a vague commitment to keep an eye on things.
Why Calgary Businesses Need a Real IT Assessment
Most IT problems that turn into expensive emergencies were visible long before they became critical. An untested backup that fails during a recovery. A legacy server running an end-of-support operating system that nobody flagged. An email environment missing MFA because nobody pushed for the migration.
We see these situations every time we onboard a client from another provider. The annual IT assessment exists to make sure our clients never become that story. Every year, your environment gets a full review – and every year, you get documentation that shows exactly where you stand.
That documentation also matters when you are renewing cyber insurance, responding to a client security questionnaire, or making a case to your board for an IT budget.
Included with the Fixed Fee Managed Services Plan
The annual IT assessment is included at no additional cost for clients on Pure IT’s Fixed Fee managed services plan. It’s one of the key differences between the Fixed Fee plan and our Proactive plan – alongside the dedicated vCIO and TAM model for strategic IT planning.
If you are currently on a managed IT agreement with another provider and cannot point to a documented annual review process, that’s worth asking about.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our IT Assessments in Calgary
Is Pure IT’s IT assessment included in the price or is it an add-on?
It’s included as a standard component of the Fixed Fee managed services plan. There is no separate charge for the assessment, the report, or the review meeting.
How is Pure IT’s annual IT assessment different from a free IT assessment?
Most free IT assessments are 30 to 60 minute discovery calls used to qualify you as a sales prospect. Pure IT’s annual IT assessment is a 20 to 30 hour structured review against ~200 industry standards, completed by a dedicated vCIO and TAM, and delivered with a written report. It is an ongoing annual commitment, not a one-time sales tool.
How long does Pure IT’s annual IT assessment assessment take?
The vCIO and TAM typically spend 20 to 30 hours completing the review. The client meeting is usually one to two hours depending on the complexity of findings and your team’s questions.
What happens if Pure IT’s annual IT assessment finds problems?
We document the findings and prepare a remediation quote for anything that needs to be addressed. You decide what to prioritize. Some clients address everything immediately; others build deficiencies into their IT roadmap over one to two years. We work with your budget and timeline.
We are not a current Pure IT client – can we still get an assessment?
The annual IT assessment is built into the Fixed Fee managed services agreement. If you are interested in what it would look like to move to Pure IT, we are happy to start with a no-obligation conversation.
