Case Study: Pure IT Sourced and Delivered a Microsoft Power Automate Solution for Metercor – On Top of the Managed IT and Cybersecurity Solutions Provided Over 9 Years

About Metercor

Metercor is a Calgary-based wholesale distributor and service provider specializing in water and gas meters. The company serves municipalities, utilities, and commercial customers across Canada – operating in a heavily regulated market where certified equipment and tamper-proof installation are legal requirements.

Over the past several years, Metercor has grown significantly, growing its team, winning larger municipal contracts, and managing staff across multiple provinces.

The Challenge

As Metercor scaled, two problems emerged simultaneously: rising cybersecurity exposure and a manual data management process that couldn’t keep pace with the team’s needs.

On the security side, the company’s growing profile, with large city contracts and sensitive infrastructure data that made it a more attractive target. A cyberattack that compromised a municipal customer’s data would have been catastrophic.

On the operations side, critical updates from suppliers and manufacturers were scattered across multiple inboxes with no central system. Sales staff had to chase the logistics team for basic shipping and tracking information, generating hours of internal email threads every week.

Clint Hoffman, Procurement & Logistics Manager at Metercor, explained:

“We live in a world where everything is exploitable. As we became a bigger business with bigger contracts, we became a bigger target.”

The Pure IT Partnership

Metercor began working with Pure IT approximately eight to nine years ago, initially for straightforward managed services: provisioning Microsoft 365 accounts, managing backend applications, and controlling device purchases. Over time, the relationship evolved significantly.

The scope expanded to include server management, data backup, and eventually a comprehensive security-first model. Pure IT regularly brought new options to Metercor’s attention, and as the company’s security needs grew, they adopted progressively stronger measures, including a new platform implemented just in the past year.

Cybersecurity: Peace of Mind That Pays Off

The value of that investment became clear almost immediately. Within a week of implementing Pure IT’s latest security upgrade, a user account was flagged for suspicious activity and locked down within 10 minutes, automatically, and without requiring Metercor staff to intervene. The issue turned out to be minor, but the response gave the team exactly the confidence they were looking for. Client expressed,

“Peace of mind goes a long way to doing your job. It turned out to be a minor issue, but it did exactly what it was supposed to – and we were very happy with that.”

Metercor’s team is spread across multiple provinces, and Pure IT, as a leading cybersecurity firm, supports them on a near-daily basis, fielding questions from traveling staff, resolving connectivity issues, and responding to security alerts in real time.

Expanding the Partnership: The Power Automate Project

When Metercor identified a need to modernize how they handled supplier and manufacturer data, Clint reached out to Pure IT, even though he assumed automation projects like this were outside their scope. Pure IT surprised him. They connected Metercor with a trusted partner who had the right expertise, managed the introduction, and ensured the project came in within budget.

The result was a Power Automate solution that pulls data from multiple suppliers, standardizes it, and delivers it directly into a shared SharePoint location accessible to the full team. What previously required hours of email chains and interdepartmental follow-up now happens automatically, giving the sales team real-time visibility into shipping and tracking without ever needing to loop in logistics. He explained,

“I can’t stress enough how much time we’ve saved in just making that data available to everyone.”

The project went from kickoff to fully stable in roughly eight weeks. For Clint, it also changed how he thinks about what Pure IT can do.

Going Above and Beyond

When asked whether Pure IT had ever exceeded his expectations, Clint pointed directly to the Power Automate project. He had assumed they were a hardware and infrastructure provider, and had nearly gone looking elsewhere. When a colleague suggested he try them anyway, he was skeptical.

“I straight up said, ‘I kind of disqualified them off the cuff because I knew we’d been working with them on the hardware and IT infrastructure.’ But the fact they were able to come through and create a partnership – and make it seamless – really opened my eyes to the potential that Pure IT has.”

That experience shifted how Metercor views the relationship. Pure IT is no longer just an IT support provider. They are a technology partner capable of identifying needs, sourcing solutions, and delivering outcomes well beyond traditional managed services.

Looking Ahead

Metercor’s next step is exploring a dedicated on-tap IT professional for faster onsite response times, a natural evolution as the company continues to grow. Their confidence in Pure IT as a long-term partner remains high, and the foundation they have built together over nearly a decade positions them well for whatever comes next.
